This six-part series tells the stories of the people who live and work in stunning natural beauty. For the first time filmed in north Mayo, we follow a wealth of very different individuals and get a rare glimpse into what life is like in this part of the world.
Episode 1 …. Sunday 8th March 2015 TG4: Local Tour Guide Agatha Hurst takes us off the beaten track with a hike across the unspoiled Ceann Iorrais. In Eachléim, busy Ap designer Cillian Ó Mongáin celebrates daughter Nora’s first birthday. At his office Cillian has one eye on the Icloud and one eye out the window. When the conditions are right, he drops everything to surf or kayak to the Stags of Broadhaven. In Portacloy, farmer Mícheál de Búrca gets to grips dosing his sheep while in Blacksod, Hannah Quigley whips her French Woofers into shape at her busy B&B.
Episode 2 …. Sunday 15th March 2015 TG4 : It’s the height of summer and Bean an tí Sadie de Búrca is busy getting the house ready for the Gaeltacht students while husband Mícheál organises a bonfire night. Agatha Hurst and daughter Róise set off in search of the elusive Erris corncrake while Hannah Quigley and woofers run around like headless chickens trying to capture hens for the new chicken coup.
Episode 3 …. Sunday 22nd March 2015 TG4 : In Geesala, local Solicitor Kathleen Doocey fights for the rights of the local draft fishermen - including her father Eddie. In this episode, we get a rare glimpse into this endangered tradition as Kathleen and her father set off to catch a salmon. At the annual Cruinniú na mBád Festival Kathleen is again at the helm. It’s colourful mayhem with locals and tourists all fighting to get racing before the tide turns as hundreds of spectators watch on. In Portacloy, Mícheál gives us his unique take on life repairing walls and fences with the lads from the Rural Social scheme while Cillian plays concertina in a roaring trad session in the local pub, Teach Únas.
In the following weeks, episodes 4, 5 &6 will be broadcast sequentially. As they episodes progress, we meet a wealth of other interesting characters and learn that no matter what the season, there is always something exciting happening in this unique corner of Ireland.
