Presentation and Mentoring with Screenwriter Eugene O'Brien in Castlebar. 9th of Dec
Screenwriter Eugene O Brien (of Pure Mule & Eden fame) is one of the writers giving a screenwriting presentation and short mentoring opportunities in Mayo on Saturday 9th of December.
This free event is aimed at Mayo writers and is provided by Film Mayo and Mayo Arts Service. Booking is required for attending the presentation and mentoring availability is by a submission process which closes Thursday 30th of November.
During his presentation Eugene will outline what he has found useful in helping craft a good screenplay through his own experience in working in film and television. Eugene will help advise and answer any questions participants may have.

Networking opportunity over light lunch
Mentoring slots:run for half hour durations from 2pm- 3:30pm
The other writers who will give presentations in the morning and offer one on one mentoring in the afternoon are Elizabeth Reapy (fiction writer) and Eva O’Connor (playwright).
Mentoring sessions: There are three slots available with each of the three writers. Places are limited and if you are interested in a one on one session please submit the following: Elizabeth, Eugene and Eva will decide which writers they can best assist in these sessions. Please select one of the three writing forms, screenwriting, fiction, or playwriting.
- One on one in Screenwriting with Eugene O’Brien – for consideration please submit a 500 word max synopsis of the screenplay that you would like to discuss with Eugene during this one on one session.
- One on one in Fiction Writing with Elizabeth Reapy – for consideration please submit 2,000 words for a work that you would bring to this one on one session.
- One on one in Playwriting with Eva O’Connor – for consideration please submit between 3-6 pages of a dialogue scene. It can be a standalone scene or part of a bigger piece of work.
Writers interested in a mentoring session need to submit the above requirements and a paragraph outlining what help, support, information or advice they would hope get from the sessions by Thursday 30th of November.
Elizabeth Reapy is from Claremorris. She has a BA in English Literature and History from NUI Galway, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from UCC and an MA in Creative Writing from Queen’s University, Belfast. She represented Ireland and was listed for PEN International: New Voices Award in 2013. She is currently working on her second novel.
Presentation with Fiction Writer Elizabeth Reapy – Elizabeth’s presentation will focus on creativity and productivity, developing ideas, common writing fears and how to overcome them, tips on finding time to write, examples from writers' lives.
Eva O'Connor is a writer and performer from Ogonnelloe, Co. Clare.
Her plays include My Best Friend Drowned in a Swimming Pool, Kiss me and You Will See How Important I Am, (Best Emerging Artist Award 2012 at the Edinburgh Fringe), My Name is Saoirse, (Argus Angel Award at the Brighton Fringe 2015, and Best Theatre Award 2017 at the Adelaide Fringe). Overshadowed, (Fishamble Award for Best New Writing 2015 at the Dublin Fringe, and now adapted for BBC three as TV series).
Presentation with Playwright, Eva O’Connor – Eva will discuss her journey as a playwright to date and give an insight to the ways to go about getting your work from the page to the stage.
This is a free event but booking is required to attend the presentations. Submissions are required for the one on one sessions which are by selection.
