Wedding plans on Inishturk may be ruined by weather in TV3’s ‘Islanders’.

Funded by TV3 and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, ‘Islanders’ is a four-part series produced by 3Studios.

In episode 3, it’s Nathan’s last day at school on the island of Inishturk and from September he must move to the mainland two days after his mum’s wedding.

The unstable weather means that Bríd and Joe must organise a second ‘back-up’ wedding on the mainland in case the ferry cannot make the crossing to the island on the big day.

Episode 3 of ‘Islanders’ airs this Wednesday (29th April) at 9pm on TV3.

Islanders is an emotional series following the lives of native islanders across an entire year. Filmed in 2014, this observational documentary is the biggest in-house production undertaken by 3Studios. From Arranmore, Co. Donegal via Inishturk in Co. Mayo to Whiddy in Co.Cork, this four part series captures a way-of-life rapidly disappearing.

Set within breath-taking landscapes, the islanders’ stories are emotive, uplifting and told with honesty and frankness. Narrated by Irish actor Andrew Bennett (‘Angela’s Ashes’, ‘Garage’, ‘The Stag’), this is a landmark series for TV3, supported by the BAI.

The third episode of the series opens on Inishturk, where it’s Nathan’s last day at school on the island. From September he must move to the mainland, two days after his mum’s wedding day. For Mum Bríd, who is in the throes of organising her island wedding, it’s a bitter-sweet time and it’s preying on her mind.

The weather is also playing havoc with Bríd’s emotions. The unstable weather means that the bride and groom to-be must organise a second ‘back-up’ wedding on the mainland in case the ferry cannot make the crossing to the island on the day. It’s double the work in a short space of time. With pressure mounting the couple bring in wedding planner, Rhona Chambers, from Hotel Westport. However, it’s the first island wedding Rhona has ever undertaken. As the big day gets closer, the weather worsens and it looks like Bríd’s dream of an island wedding is fading away.

With many twists and turns along the way, Islanders follows the lives and stories of these characters over a tumultuous year, to learn what threatens their survival, to discover a different way of life, and to share in what it means to be an islander.

Episode 3 of ‘Islanders’ airs this Wednesday (29th April) at 9pm on TV3.
