SANCTUARY: SPECIAL FILM SCREENING + Q&A AT THE LINENHALL, CASTLEBAR
There’s a special public screening of the acclaimed Irish film Sanctuary at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar followed by a Q&A with actors and crew on Saturday 30th September at 2.00pm. Mayo based Director of photography Narayan Van Maele shot the feature film ‘Gutland’ (35mm) has been selected to be screened in the Discovery section at the Toronto International Film Festival 2017. Govida Van Maele’s (Luxembourg) is the Director/Producer of Gutland which is a surrealist rural noir about a German thief who flees to a small Luxembourg village only to discover that the locals have secrets of their own.

Castlebar native, Kevin Henry is the Writer/Director of Soulsmith. This low budget feature film was partly shot in Mayo. The film makes use of various locations in Mayo including Johnny McHale's Pub in Castlebar and The Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar. The film also utilised the beauty of Old Head Beach and Louisburgh Pier. It is produced by Whim Productions. Red Rage Films were busy shooting Eir's latest add, Let’s Make Possible, which is currently recieving widespread coverage on television. The campaign was created by Rothco advertising.
Film Mayo and Mayo County Council's Tourism unit were delighted to be able to advise Red Rage Films regarding possible Mayo locations. The film crew settled on Achill and really enjoyed the wilds that this location had to offer. The Achill shots show stunning footage of mountain biker, Daniel Wolfe, near the sheer cliffs of Achill.

Mayo writer/director Alan Mulligan was very excited and honoured to have his first feature film selected as part of this years Galway Film Fleadh. The Limit of got great coverage in the Fleadh's brochure, with a full page spread. It also had a great slot in the Fleadh's programme when it was premiered on Thursday 13th July at 10:00pm at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway, with the cast and crew in attendance. The film received a standing ovation from a full house at the Fleadh.

The first of five short adventure films by Mayo.ie was launched online last week, concentrating on the personal stories of athletes. With stunning scenery as the backdrop, the films are profile pieces on athletes either from, or with a real connection to the county. Have a look at the first of these films which has the landscape of Achill as a star. If you are considering shooting in Mayo, then see what Achill has to offer. The remaining productions will be released throughout 2017, on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and will showcase more of what Mayo has to offer.
